There will be a reception for New Members in the Club Room after the lecture.
Back by popular request, Timothy Walker, Director of the Oxford University Botanic Garden for over 15 years, is now a lecturer and tutor at Somerville College, Oxford.
This is an account of Timothy’s six-week trip to visit Chinese botanic gardens and the people who work there in order to collaborate with these gardens in the future. In seven weeks, the group of fellow enthusiasts, funded by The Winston Churchill Travelling Fellowship Scheme, travelled more than 5,000 miles and visited more than three dozen gardens. In the talk Timothy will try to give an impression of contemporary China, its peoples and its gardens. He will also look at how Chinese Botanic Gardens are contributing to the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation.
