Paris during the Belle Époque served as the backdrop for the rise of Alphonse Mucha and his signature Art Nouveau style. Taylor Hagood leads a journey back to the late 19th century to place Mucha’s work in its original cultural context. The discussion examines how the artist moved within an influential circle that included Sarah Bernhardt, Claude Debussy, Paul Gauguin, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, and Marcel Proust. Through the lenses of history, literature, and visual culture, Hagood traces the ways Mucha shaped the look of an era that remains glamorous and turbulent in our collective memory.Schedule
