A Reading and Conversation with Pergentino José / Lectura y conversación con Pergentino José

Join us for a reading and conversation with Oaxacan author Pergentino José was born in 1981 in Buena Vista, San Agustin Loxicha, a village in the Pacific highlands of Oaxaca. He earned his Master’s Degree in Hispanic Literature at Universidad Austral in Chile. He has published poetry and prose in both Zapotec and Spanish and is a member of the Sistema Nacional de Creadores de Arte, the Mexican government's prestigious fellowship program for artists and writers. His poetry was awarded with the CaSa Award organized by the government of Oaxaca. Red Ants (Deep Vellum, 2020) is his first book in English, and the first literary translation into English from the Zapotec Sierra. Moderated by Prof. Héctor García Chávez, Director of Graduate Programs in Gender Studies, Loyola University Chicago.

Acompáñanos a una lectura y conversación con el escritor Pergentino José, nacido en 1981 en Buena Vista, San Agutín Loxicha, un pueblo de la sierra zapoteca de Oaxaca. José es Maestro en Literatura Hispanoamericana por la Universidad Austral de Chile. Ha publicado poesía y prosa tanto en zapoteca como en español y es miembro del Sistema Nacional de Creadores de Artes del FONCA, uno de los programas de becas más importantes para artistas otorgado por el gobierno mexicano. Ha recibido el premio CaSa, que organizan diversos institutos culturales de Oaxaca. Red Ants (Deep Vellum, 2020) es su primer libro en inglés y la primera traducción literaria al inglés de la sierra zapoteca. La charla será moderada por el profesor Héctor García Chávez, Director del posgrado en Estudios de Género de la Loyola University.

The 2021 Chicago festival will be hybrid and feature both virtual and in-person programs including readings, conversations, and workshops. We’re excited to announce that the one-and-only Live Magazine Show will be presented in partnership with the University of Chicago’s Logan Center for the Arts.

El Festival Lit & Luz regresa del 1 al 6 de noviembre de 2021. A través del tema de este año, "Estructura", los participantes considerarán las estructuras físicas que nos albergan, las estructuras políticas y sociales que nos rodean, y mucho más.
