Join us for a one-day outdoor workshop with Saul Mosbacher, former CELT Tree Nursery Manager, renowned for his wealth of knowledge about native trees and on the wide variety of local seeds available for collecting at this time of year. We all know Trees are essential to life and with increasing awareness of their vital role in tackling the twin crisis of biodiversity loss and climate change, we wish to support and empower people, farmers and communities everywhere to take action, engaging in NATURE BASED SOLUTIONS and playing a part in collecting local seed and restoring native trees to our Irish landscape.
Sourcing local and native seed and growing a tree from a seed is an easy, simple act and can help us all play a part in addressing current challenges of nature restoration, climate adaptation and mitiagtion, while reconnecting us to our nature and to our shared destiny with the natural world.
Trees play an intrinsic role in our everyday lives, producing the oxygen we breath, they also provide multiple ecosystems benefits.. providing a vital habitat for wildlife, storing carbon in their trunks and roots, reducing flooding and air pollution, protecting soils from erosion, and providing food, medicine, shelter, and natural materials, not just for ourselves but for millions of species on Earth.
Trees play a vital role in supporting the Web of Life.
CELT supports local and national efforts in meeting our goals in reforestation, nature restoration, climate adaptation and mitigation, and to ensure the future of Ireland's woodlands having a diverse genetic pool, for old native tree genetics to be promoted through sourcing of seeds and saplings of native provenance and collection of our own seeds from old native woodlands across Ireland.
There are a multitude of benefits to sourcing trees grown from local provenance seeds, including that the trees are more acclimated to Irish weather conditions and Irish soil, conservation and promotion of old native genetics, and reduced risk of introducing an alien disease into the tree population.
