Course description;
Jug Bands sprang up early in twentieth century USA - they played a form of Jazz and Country Blues on a variety of instruments, some even home-made (washboards, jugs and kazoos). This marvellous music was notably played by Will Shade, Gus Cannon and others who in turn inspired Lonnie Donegan, John Lennon, Ry Cooder, John Sebastian, The Grateful Dead and many more to start playing. However, you do not have to be a musical genius to play it, you just have to get stuck in. It's a lot of fun!
Material List
Bring your own instruments, they can be shop bought or low tech, even kitchen implements, whatever you want and lets just make some noise and enjoy yourselves! Washboards, kazoos, banjos, ukes, mandolins, guitars, home-made cigar box guitars, blues harmonicas, beer jugs, paper and comb, whatever you fancy getting a tune out of, bring it along and let's make a "scratch band" and have some fun.
The tutor will provide sheets with lyrics and tabs / chords for you to refer to and take away at the end. Bring your VOICES too.
Let's get Bristol Folk House rockin', across two days in November - alright!
