FAQs:
What is Lindy Hop?
Lindy Hop is a Black American art form that focuses on improvisation, rhythms, and jazz music. With Black vernacular jazz at its core, Lindy Hop seeks to create connection between two dancers and what they each hear in the music and feel in their bodies. The name Lindy Hop was inspired by Charles Lindbergh’s 1927 “hop” across the Atlantic.
What do I bring?
We recommend wearing clothing that is easy to move in. You’ll be dancing all around the floor, so be sure to pick something that you don’t mind sweating in. For shoes, comfortable is key! Most people wear flat shoes like Keds or a shoe with leather soles. Some extras things to bring are a water bottle, sweat towel, extra shirts (if you sweat a lot), a hand fan, etc. We will have time set aside for breaks.
Should I Lead or Follow?
Choose your own adventure! Swing dancing is a partnered dance and everyone’s voice plays a unique role. Leads generally initiate movement or an idea for followers who then respond with their own interpretation.
