We're fortunate to live so near a wide array of outdoor activities. The option to experience hiking, rafting, snowboarding/skiing, and a picnic in the woods are all within a short walk or drive from school or home. Unfortunately, sometimes, a person become lost in the wilderness, turning an enjoyable day into an anxious, fear-filled event. Jackson County Search and Rescue wants every person, especially children, to know how to survive alone in the wilderness should they ever become lost. The Lost But Found Program was created specifically for this need and is being brought to a library branch near you. This unique presentation, designed for children but adults are also welcome, consists of a 12-minute video, demonstrations of easy survival techniques and simple gear, and a discussion/questions period led by a member of the Jackson County Search and Rescue team.Afterward, children will have a chance to practice their searching skills around the branch in a scavenger hunt for a survival safety item as a prize for each one.
