LEAP Module 7: Teamwork (For City of Detroit employees only)
Teamwork is an intricate construction of bringing people with the right skills together to complete a specific task. As this four-hour workshop notes, “High-performing teams are built, they do not form by chance.” Participation, trust, communication struggles, collaboration, roles, and quality control all define a team. The workshop then proceeds to identify six different types of teams before delving into the realm of 12 characteristics of high-performing teams. The workshop then describes five team development stages and stimulates discussion on five team theory models. Since the workshop’s relevance is on employee engagement with respect to teams, it shows the team leader’s responsibilities and the effect the team leader plays with respect to creating a dynamic culture that promotes the organization’s values while aligning the team’s tasks to the organization’s goals.
The Employee LEAP program is a series of workshops giving participants the necessary skills and knowledge to make them more productive, efficient, and valuable in the organization. The LEAP acronym stands for:
• L – Learn
• E – Engage
• A – Apply
• P – Perform
Once participants learn the material, participants engage with it using interactive workshop activities. Then, they apply the material in their work environment and perform to the best of their abilities having acquired new talents and skills.
