About this Event

The West Midlands Regional Economic Development Institute (WMREDI) based at the University of Birmingham invites you to join this Conservative Party Conference Fringe Meeting at the beautiful Grade II listed building in the civic heart of Birmingham, The Exchange. Hear from an expert panel as they discuss R&D and accelerating innovation, including its role in delivering inclusion.

WMREDI has been at the forefront of the debate around university R&D and inclusive innovation. Not only has it conducted academic research, it convened a major roundtable on the issue with University UK in December last year and, since the Government’s announcement of the three Innovation Accelerator Pilots, it has been collaborating with colleagues in Greater Manchester, the West Midlands and Glasgow and the Connected Places Catapult.

It is important that the Innovation Accelerator Pilots succeed by leveraging private sector investment and helping drive inclusive, sustainable growth, and that the benefits of inclusive innovation extend to many more places. This fringe meeting aims to bring together key politicians with council leaders, academics, think tanks and other policy influencers to discuss these critical issues, and how best to deliver the innovation agenda.
