About this Event
Organisations in Dudley are increasingly developing climate action work. Dudley Council approved a Climate Action Plan in March 2024. In November 2023 Dudley CVS trustees adopted a Climate Justice Policy and Climate Action Plan developed by staff.
Maybe your team or organisation has (or is working on) a climate action plan, a policy around climate adaptation, or is bringing people together around climate action. If you are one of the people leading such work you might have a desire to connect with others who are also leading work on climate action locally. At times you might feel a bit stuck or lonely, or that it’s too hard or taking too long. What if you could unlock potential with the power pf peers?
If you are leading on climate action, are curious to learn alongside others, and would welcome support to help you learn, create and take action, we’d love to meet you.
This peer learning community will convene seasonally to provide support, share ideas and resources and celebrate progress and successes. You will direct your own learning, and be offered tools and support to learn through doing. This will be a space which encourages creative, experimental responses to the climate, nature and justice crisis.
During this first session we will agree dates of future sessions and explore possibilities to vary or blend in person and online sessions. We might also set up ways to communicate and support each other between sessions.
Each session will be different and will respond to where you are at in your journey. Learning will evolve with our explorations. There will be options to spend time in smaller learning pods during sessions where there that feels helpful.
Here are just some things we could explore together:
- Taking practical action in our own organisations, and making it easier for everyone.
- Examples and resources to help with developing climate action policies and plans.
- Developing nature connection practices to nurture pro-environmental attitudes and behaviours.
- Supporting transition in communities; community led-climate action and adaptation.
- Exploring climate justice, and it’s relationship with health equity.
- Cultivating longer term thinking and behaviours.
You don’t have to come to every session. We all have different commitments and our energy changes throughout the year. If you make one session and can’t make the next one you will always be welcome. We hope you won’t feel left behind as we will share documentation following each session.
Leading Climate Action is hosted by Time Rebel Lorna Prescott, a member of the CoLab Dudley team and Dudley CVS officer. As host of this peer learning community, Lorna will create rhythms (regular, consistent times to meet) and rituals (such as reflection time) to help hold us together.
We want to make Leading Climate Action as inclusive and accessible as possible so please let Lorna know how you can be made to feel welcome. While the main space of CoLab Dudley is all on street level, unfortunately the toilet is only accessible via a steep flight of stairs. If this would make it difficult for you to join in, please let Lorna know and we will do our best to find another venue.
