About this Event
This event is a taster and open day for attendees to get a flavour for what the LEAD Programme is about and the potential outcomes attendees can expect to achieve - once the day is completed, attendees will be given the option to sign-up to the LEAD course.
Attendees will also be able to benefit from speeches delivered by Shaykh Zahed Fettah and Dr Aula Meki.
Light lunch and refreshments will be provided on the day.
There will be stalls for businesses at the event.
The LEAD Programme has been devised to equip young Muslims (aged 18 - 30) with the knowledge and skills to be able to engage in a diverse society whilst preserving their Islamic identity.
What is LEAD?
Lead is a 2-year comprehensive development programme based in the Midlands.
Aims include:
Learn the fundamental moderate principles of Islam and improve your Islamic practice.
Experience community rooted activities to establish stronger community networks & bring about positive contribution to British society.
Aspire to gain the personal qualities to become future leaders and ambassadors of Islam.
Develop a closer relationship with Allah SWT.
Once enrolled onto the LEAD Programme (beginning November 2022) - attendees can expect to achieve the above aims through:
- Weekend programmes – Retreats (both 24 and 48 hour residentials).
- Study Circles.
- Personal Development Projects.
- Focused virtual sessions with recognised scholars.
Why LEAD?
The need for structured youth programmes, with clear aim and objectives.
With endless questions about identity, the role of faith in a secular society, how to make a contribution, etc. and it is not easy to reach answers.
Addressing distorted views of Islam e.g. extreme ideas or complete detachment between faith and life.

Shaykh Zahed Fettah: In the Footsteps of the Prophets
Biography - Zahed completed his LLB Law degree from the University of Birmingham, a BA in Sharī'ah Law from the European Institute of Human Sciences, and an MA in Islamic Studies from Newman University. He then completed two years of specialisation in Usūl al-Iftā in the Ḥanafī legal school. His classical Islamic studies were mainly with scholars in the UK and Algeria, where he mainly studied Tafsir and Hadith. He is currently a PhD student and an Islamic Studies lecturer at the Markfield Institute of Higher Education.
Dr Aula: Strengthening your resolve and accomplishing your goals
Biography - Dr Aula Meki is a Clinical Psychologist with extensive experience in providing a range of training, lectures, workshops, mentoring and supervision for a number of Islamic organisations, all with the aim of developing our understanding of Islam and Muslims within a British cultural frame. Aula is currently working within a specialist psychotherapy services offering more long-term trauma-focussed therapies, with an interest in attachment and faith-based approaches which she applies in her community work with Muslim families.
The LEAD Programme is supported by MAB (Muslim Association Britain).
