(English follows.)🎞️ L’ONF, en collaboration avec les Sommets du cinéma d’animation, a le plaisir de vous inviter à la leçon de cinéma d’Ehsan Gharib.*
➡️ D’origine iranienne, Ehsan Gharib intègre la photographie, l’animation et le design à ses films. Il a créé l’animation de la production primée OSCAR (2016) de l'ONF, portrait d’Oscar Peterson réalisé par Marie-Josée Saint-Pierre, et fait partie des équipes d’animation du long métrage JASMINE ROAD (2020) et de DISENCHANTED (2022), produit par Disney. Sa première réalisation, le court métrage expérimental DEYZANGEROO (2017), a remporté la Colombe d’or à DOK Leipzig.
🎥 Lors de cette leçon, le cinéaste discutera du processus créatif qui se cache derrière son dernier court métrage d’animation, SAMAA (2024), où il continue d’explorer l’interaction entre la musique et l’animation. Dans ce film, Ehsan nous plonge dans une captivité imaginaire à l’aide d’animations saisissantes peintes à la main et de percussions viscérales. La situation dramatique de l’oiseau soulève une question : la liberté est-elle un état physique ou un état d’esprit?

🎞️ The NFB, in partnership with the Sommets du cinéma d’animation, is pleased to invite you to an Artist’s Talk with Ehsan Gharib.
➡️ Iranian-born Ehsan Gharib integrates photography, animation and design into his cinema. He created the animation for the award-winning NFB production OSCAR (2016), Marie-Josée Saint-Pierre’s portrait of Oscar Peterson, and was part of the animation teams for the feature film JASMINE ROAD (2020) and Disney-produced DISENCHANTED (2022). His directorial debut, the experimental short DEYZANGEROO (2017), won a Golden Dove at DOK Leipzig.
🎥 During this talk, the filmmaker will discuss the creative process behind his latest animated short SAMAA (2024); where he continues to experiment with the interplay between music and animation. Ehsan invites us into imagined captivity using striking, hand-painted animation and visceral drumming. The bird’s dramatic plight begs the question: Is freedom a state of being, or is it a state of mind?
