The North Sea is littered with pipelines and platforms dedicated to the extraction of fossil fuels. As wells dry up, a monumental cleanup is just starting to gather pace. What are the labor relations emerging along with this new activity? Peder Østring will highlight both challenges to and possibilities for a just transition in the process of oil and gas decommissioning.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Peder Ressem Østring is a doctoral research fellow at the University of Oslo, interested in critical approaches to labour, economic and environmental geography. He is currently researching the global destruction network of offshore decommissioning in the North Sea and its implications for a just transition. Peder is a current member of the editorial board of the Norwegian Marxist journal ‘Gnist’.
