About this Event
Back in the late 1960s, some conservation minded individuals agreed with the fishermen of St Abbs not to collect any shellfish or fish, to help protect their traditional livelihood. Sub-aqua clubs joined the ban and added their names to a board which also had a few regulations. That was the start for marine conservation on the Berwickshire Coast, when in 1975 diver and underwater photographer Lawson, whose youth was spent exploring rock pools, collecting shells on the beach and snorkelling along the coast and even in some of the larger rock pools, declared the UK’s first voluntary marine reserve, at Eyemouth.
