Our year-long Keeping the Score Series continues with an iconic film that must be experienced on the big screen--LAWRENCE OF ARABIA! ๐๐ฒ๐ ๐ง๐ถ๐ฐ๐ธ๐ฒ๐๐: princetongardentheatre.org/specials๐๐ฏ๐ผ๐๐ ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐ ๐ผ๐๐ถ๐ฒ: LAWRENCE OF ARABIA is a sprawling epic about the adventures of British intelligence officer T.E. Lawrence in the Middle East during World War I. The film is exciting, spectacularly beautiful and, needless to say, was meant to be seen on the big screen. Peter OโToole is astonishing โ his piercing blue eyes and commanding presence highlight one of the most memorable performances of movie history.
๐๐ฏ๐ผ๐๐ ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐ฆ๐ฐ๐ผ๐ฟ๐ฒ: Director David Lean considered several composers for LAWRENCE OF ARABIA, including the Bridge on the River Kwai composer Malcolm Arnold and Broadway legend Richard Rodgers, before hearing French composer Maurice Jarreโs treatment โThe Theme from Lawrence of Arabiaโ. He hired Jarre to write music for the entire film, a score which won one of the filmโs seven Academy Awards. LAWRENCEโS strings-heavy work is a playful and sweeping symphony, capturing the grandeur of Leanโs stunning desert vistas. Jarre also cleverly underscores the grandiloquence and ego driving the filmโs elusive protagonist, T.E. Lawrence, whose precise motivations fuel the filmโs central mystery. Lean and Jarre would work together on other films like Doctor Zhivago and A Passage to India, forming one of cinemaโs most significant collaborations between director and composer.
๐๐ฏ๐ผ๐๐ ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐ฆ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฒ๐:Be it a gentle piano interlude or a glorious orchestral fanfare, no element of filmcraft sets a movieโs tone and identity quite like the musical score. Film music has the power to underline a filmmakerโs narrative ideas, forge our bond to a heroic character, and move us to the point of tears. Join us all year long as we showcase cinemaโs iconic composers whose musical talents enrich the images we see on screen and have us humming their unforgettable melodies as we exit the auditorium.
