About this Event
Details
This is a workshop for writers who love experimentation. It combines freewriting with mixed media art to produce an art journal that has therapeutic value. I am IFS therapy informed.
The session typically starts with freewriting and right brain drawing, followed by prompted writing on a particular topic. Then we incorporate layers of paint, collage, ink, mixed media, and objects on the page. After that, another layer of text, and so on. There is variety between sessions: sometimes a focus on experimenting with specific art materials or writing style, at other times a therapeutic approach, or multi-sensory work (touch, smell, taste, embodied practice, etc). A free WhatsApp group offers weekly prompts and a sense of community.
You don’t have to be an artist – after all you can write in circles or invisible ink, paint over your words, punch the page with wild colours, or burn the paper. Stick the pages together if you want total privacy!
It’s a new form of daily journal, and can help with writing blocks, new ideas, poetic expression, lateral thinking, and self-discovery. It’s a repository of your state of mind over time and will help you tune into your varying moods. Mainly, however, it's a lot of fun and, unlike writing, you can occasionally chat while you're doing it!
