The Lake City Police Department, in partnership with the Columbia County Sheriff's Office, Florida Department of Corrections, and CoreCivic, invites the community to participate in the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Florida. This annual event will take place on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, and supports the inspiring athletes of Special Olympics Florida.The Torch Run will step off at 10:30 a.m. from the south entrance of First Methodist Church, located at 973 S Marion Ave, Lake City, FL 32025. Participants will proceed along a 1.9-mile route that continues north on Marion Avenue, turns west onto NW Washington Street, and heads south along NW Hilton Avenue to 6th Street. The run will conclude at Teen Town, where Special Olympics Athletes will enjoy a celebratory lunch.
The event is open to all members of the community; however, participants are required to purchase a Torch Run T-shirt and complete a participation waiver. T-shirt proceeds directly benefit Special Olympics Florida, helping to fund programs and opportunities for athletes with intellectual disabilities.
The approximate duration of the route is 44 minutes, making it accessible to participants of various fitness levels. This inspiring event is a unique opportunity to unite with local law enforcement and community members in support of a worthy cause.
