About this Event
Background
The Law Commission is reviewing the legal framework governing social care for disabled children in England to ensure that the law is fair, modern and accessible, allowing children with disabilities to access the support they need. We have published a consultation paper asking people to tell us about their experiences of the current system and setting out our provisional proposals on how it could be improved. We invite views on these proposals. The consultation is open until 20 January 2025. More information about the consultation, including the consultation paper and online response form, can be found on our website.
Event details
At this in-person consultation event for stakeholders based in and around London, the Law Commission team leading the review will provide an overview of the consultation paper and the provisional proposals for reform, and attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and provide their views. Anyone with an interest in, or experience of disabled children's social care, is welcome. This includes: young people; parents and carers; social workers, managers and directors at local authorities; charities; health and education professionals; lawyers and academics. We are arranging separate dedicated sessions for children and young people and any children and young people's groups wishing to contribute are encouraged to get in touch.
