The "Behind Closed Doors" exhibit takes a peek into a private world of hidden emotion, where the mask comes off and the truth quietly surfaces.Out in the world, it is polite to be “ok”, and only that really... But behind closed doors, in our safe spaces tucked away… here is where we can truly be ourselves. Here we don’t have to pretend to be perfectly fine all the time. Here we can accept that we are just human, experiencing everything all at once. The good, the bad, the scared, the broken, and all those spaces in between.
Each painting in this series captures a facet of that hidden life that we are oh so scared to reveal. The flood of emotions, the escape into solitude, the longing for happiness in all the wrong places, and the slow surrender to the burden of carrying too much for too long.
Here in the shadows, vulnerability is not weakness, but the purest form of self. Here, it is simply being human.
Artist Bio:
Lauren Browning is a Colorado-based figurative painter whose work captures the quiet intimacy of truly seeing someone. Drawn to art from an early age, she has been painting since she was eighteen, refining her craft through years of study, practice, and devotion to her subjects.
Working primarily in oil, Lauren paints women in a realistic style, focusing not only on their likeness but on the presence and emotion that live beneath the surface. Her process is slow and deliberate, studying subtle expressions, hidden tones in the skin, and the fleeting moments that reveal a person’s essence.
Driven by her love for the process, the challenge, and the deep human connection her work invites, she plans to keep painting for as long as she can hold a brush.
