LAC CI AND SOMATICS FALL SEASON LAUNCH WEEKEND!
8/31-9/1~

*** Celebrate the launch of our Fall season and try out classes with the teachers of our intensive programs. ***

SATURDAY, 8/31
10am-1:00pm: Workshop with Ray Schwartz~ Mapping Collective Geographies: Collective Care Approaches to Collaborative Improvisation~
* This 3 hour laboratory will invite participants into engagement with Somatic principles such as kinesthetic input, proprioceptive awareness, and equilibrium responses, while priming the body to respond safely and creatively to unpredictable moments of surprise in dancing. The lab operates with and without contact and weight sharing, and includes dynamic listening, supported choice-making, strategies for warming up, embodying presence, attending to space, enacting physical dialogues, and celebrating ensemble practices.

1:00-2:00: Lunch with Friends New and Old! We recommend bringing lunch (and snacks to share!) if you are staying for both classes (an excellent idea!).
2:00-5:00pm: “Welcome Back” CI Jam with Live Improvised Music and Guided Warm-up by Toni Craige~ 7 Flavors of Jam, Traveling Edition~
* A long, juicy jam to come together after a summer off! The guided-warm-up provides a shared ground for exploration. Dynamic interplay with musicians in real-time creates a rich, creative space. We invite you to come on time and stay for the entire event so that we can share a cohesive experience together. This jam is the first of our “7 Flavors of Jam, Traveling Edition” series~ seven jams with live improvised music and guided warm-ups, “traveling” to different days of the week throughout our Fall season.

Arrival before 2:00~ socialize, warm-up
2:00~ silent warm-up
2:15~ opening circle
2:30~ guided warm-up into jamming
SUNDAY, 9/1
3:30-6:00pm Workshop with em liptow and Len Foyle: Contact Improvisation Fundamentals

* This 2.5-hour workshop provides an immersive dive into the fundamental skills, concepts, and techniques of Contact Improvisation practice, providing the groundwork to safely continue learning the form in the context of jamming and ongoing classes. You'll get some basic physical and emotional safety and techniques under your belt, and get a taste of the joy of the practice! Great for those new to CI or anyone who wants to gently revisit the foundations of the form.
