Thrown Identities
Suemi Chiba
In Thrown Identities, Suemi Chiba explores surface and form as a means of storytelling, using rich layers of glaze, colour and texture to evoke place, memory and landscape.
In her practice, Suemi experiments with different firing processes to achieve varied effects. Dark clays are fired using atmospheric methods, resulting in organic and unpredictable surface textures. White clays are fired in electric kilns, producing more controlled, elaborately decorated pieces.
Suemi’s work is grounded in classical pottery techniques and reflects a diverse cultural background shaped by her Japanese, British, Canadian and Australian heritage.

The Breath Wheel
Ann Menezies
For artist Ann Menezies, each work in The Breath Wheel is a symbolic exploration of the spirit and its relationship to the outer world.
Each wheel represents a different aspect of identity and perception. At the centre is the self and the breath. Radiating outward, the surrounding band reflects physical and emotional connections. The outer layers depict the people, places, events and objects we encounter in daily life.
The Breath Wheel is a meditation on the possibilities of life, a reminder to pause, take a breath and check in with oneself.
Ann Menezies is a Tasmanian artist whose deeply spiritual work is inspired by the practice of breath meditation and yoga.

Reason and Reaction
Rino Nobel and Peter Graham
In Reason and Reaction, two artists search for meaning from contrasting directions – Peter Graham through an analytical, scientific lens, and Rino Nobel from a more intuitive, spiritual perspective.
Peter Graham is a sculptor who works with glass, steel, bronze, concrete and wood, using the physical qualities of these materials to explore and better understand the natural world.
Rino Nobel is a trained ceramicist and glass artist who also explores drawing and painting as part of her artistic practice.
