Makers: the object
Makers is an exhibition inspired by the book of the same name, celebrating the creative heart of Lutruwita / Tasmania. It is a collection of work from local jewellers, ceramicists, furniture makers and textile artists who are shaping a distinctive design culture in the State.
Captured in the pages of Makers are the physical objects created by Tasmanian creatives. These objects are the end result of an initial idea. The process of making, re-thinking, problem-solving, dreaming and learning is all presented in a three-dimensional form. The chaos of the studio is left behind and the object is finished, still, complete. Ready to be used in someone’s life.
Join us after the launch of Makers for a conversation with artists Ben Grieve-Johnson, Laura McCusker and Ivett Dodd, mediated by Judith Abell. They will discuss what inspires them to make objects, what it takes to create something beautiful and how they arrived at making in the first place. Open to all who would like to attend. Free event.
