Learn to weave lauhala bracelets from hala leaves, a Hawaiian art form symbolizing beauty, tradition, and cultural connection.
About this Event

Join us on Friday, October 24th to learn lauhala weaving. In this class, you will learn how to make lauhala bracelets - traditional Hawaiian accessories woven from the long, flat leaves of the hala tree (Pandanus tectorius). The term "lauhala" literally means "hala leaf" in Hawaiian. This weaving technique is an ancient art form, passed down through generations, and these bracelets can be worn by men and women as a symbol of cultural connection and beauty.

All materials will be provided.

About your instructor: Stacie Segovia

Stacie started weaving in 2010 with Kumu Gwen Kamisugi and shortly after also learned to weave from Kumu Pohaku Kahoʻohanohano. She teaches the haumana of Nā Lālā o Ka Pūhala and also offers weekly classes at Na Kupuna Makamae. She is also one of the Kumu at the Kauluhiwaolele Maui Fiber Arts Conference held every year at Kaʻanapali Beach Hotel. The haumana of Nā Lālā o Ka Pūhala spends Saturdays planting and caring for puhala at various locations. Stacie’s dream is to attend cultural events where everyone is wearing a traditional papale lauhala!
