Gain perspectives on this fantastic period of Scottish art:
1. “Old Guard vs Avant Garde”: John Maxwell will give an overview of the quiet, creative revolution which began with the Chicago Exposition of 1893 and Secessions of Munich and Venice. He'll also discuss Arts & Crafts and Art Nouveau in Britain and Europe.
2. “Late 19th and early 20th Century Scottish Art”: John Richardson will describe The Colourists' and The Glasgow Boys' contributions to the development of a Scots Avant Garde.
Originally prepared for North Canterbury's U3A Art Appreciation Group. John Maxwell studied History and Art formally and retains a lifelong interest in both. John Richardson, a biologist, developed a keen interest in art particularly Scottish Art History since his retirement.
