About this Event
Learn how to customize your projects with the power of laser cutting! Laser cutting is used to add unique designs, quotes or logos to your work and can cut or etch a wide variety of materials including: acrylic, wood, plywood, MDF, cardboard, cork, mylar and more!
You’ll be walked through the design process and learn how to create your very own files then taken on a step by step orientation of how to operate our laser cutter! Completing this class, you will have made your own integrated hinge box using MDF or acrylic!
Come to our Laser workshop if:
- You’ve always wanted to fire high powered lasers
- You want to etch intricate designs into your projects
- You like making finger pistols and going “Pew! Pew! Pew!”
- You need to precisely cut shapes from sheet materials
Details:
Duration: 3 hours
6:00pm – 9:00pm on weekdays
Maximum # of Participants: 4
Project: MDF or Acrylic laser cut box
Prerequisites: Basic computer literacy (how to use a computer, browse the internet, etc.) required. 2D CAD experience, drawing with vector programs like Illustrator or Inkscape is a plus!

About the Instructor:
Doug Chan, Director and Co-founder at Maker Cube
Doug is an engineering graduate and serial entrepreneur, with an aptitude for technology and rapid prototyping. Previously working in several start-ups, he has experience in many fields of fabrication both traditional and modern. From molding and casting to 3D printing, metal fabrication to PCB fabrication, he has explored a wide range of processes and techniques. As an enthusiastic learner, Doug is passionate about passing on the skills he learns, teaching others to take the leap and trying new things.

What is the age limit for the class?
The minimum age for participants is 14. Participants under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian provide supervision during the class.
Where can I park?
Maker Cube’s parking lot has ample space available. Should the lot reach capacity, there is additional street parking along 206A St.
How do I cancel or reschedule a class?
Refunds or credit for future classes will only be provided if we are notified by email to [email protected] at least 24 hours in advance of the class. No refunds will be provided for late cancellation, and a re-booking fee of 50% of the cost of the class will be applied to reschedule a class.
Processing fees not refunded.
Please arrive 15 minutes before the class for sign-in and to ensure it starts on time. Those arriving more than 5 minutes late will not be able to attend. In the event of low registration, the class will be canceled and participants registered will be rescheduled to an alternate class date.
