She loves to learn everything she can about her cultural background and family history. She also likes to dance, travel, and go out for karaoke night whenever possible. Her favorite movie is Jurassic Park, and if the park were open today, she would definitely still go.

Her research line includes children’s literature and indigenous literature from Guatemala. Astrid also has been working as a co-coordinator with the K’iche’ speaking community in Utah since 2019, offering a K’iche’ language nest for the children of the diaspora K’iche’ in the state, which has cemented her interest in creating bilingual literature (K’iche’-Spanish, K’iche’-English) for those interested in preserving or learning the K’iche’ language. She currently teaches SPAN 311 conversation classes and 102 K’iche’ classes at BYU. She loves traveling and learning about different cultures and perspectives.
