About this Event
A rare opportunity to experience the legendary heroic ballads of Gaelic Scotland, sung live by Gaelic singers Rob MacNeacail and Bria Mason and on display in manuscripts and early printed collections from the Centre for Research Collections. Dr. Anja Gunderloch and Dr. Duncan Sneddon will give an introduction to the heroic ballad tradition and the materials on display, and Rob and Bria will sing legendary tales: how the heroes got their marvellous swords from a Norwegian blacksmith, Fraoch's fatal battle with a monster in a loch, how jealousy and treachery led to the death of Diarmaid... and more!
A special event for Flexible Learning Week, hosted by Celtic and Scottish Studies and the Centre for Research Collections.
The event is free to attend, but limited to 25 attendees, so please book early to avoid disappointment. We'll be aiming for a prompt start, so please do be at the CRC for 15:00.
