Come make a lantern with Art Pop-Up to take to the Stamford Orchard Wassail.Join us at Christchurch at 2.30pm for a lantern making workshop for the Wassail later that afternoon.
Across the afternoon you will:
- Make a simple no-sew fabric lantern to carry in the procession
- Enjoy other small arts and crafts activities for those with shorter attention spans
- Join the lantern procession led by the Wassail Queen and wassail singing with Linda Ball starting at 4 pm from Christchurch car park, with a short walk to the orchard
Once the procession arrives at the Orchard, the Wassail begins at 4.30 pm. This is an old English tradition that welcomes the New Year by singing to the trees and making noise to encourage a good apple harvest. Expect seasonal songs, cider apple juice and a warming brazier. Bring along saucepans and wooden spoons to bang them to warn away the spirits as we continue the procession with the Wassail Queen around the Orchard.
**Tickets are for the lantern workshop only**.
If you are only joining the Wassail at the Orchard at 4.30pm you do not need a ticket (but numbers on site may be limited for safety).
