BALLT's Ocular Visit to Catanduanes Island
(Presenting Nature’s Canvass for your next Language and Literature Research Presentation)
Our scholars’ pursuit for knowledge often leads to amazing experiences on places where words and stories can blend seamlessly with the nature’s splendor. On January 25-26, 2024, the Bicol Association of Language and Literature Teachers (BALLT) officers conducted an ocular visit to the enchanting Catanduanes Island. The visit proved to be not only a testament to Catanduanes State University’s (CatSU) credentials for benchmarking but also a revelation of the island's captivating allure.
Nestled in the easternmost edge of Luzon, Catanduanes emerged as a prime contender to host the second Language and Literature International Conference 2024 (LLICon2024). The island’s university is home to a collegium of language enthusiasts with genuine interest to grow their language studies. Dr. Jimmylen Z. Tonio, the Dean of the College of Humanites and Social Sciences who holds a Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics, also ranks in AD Scientific Index 2024, along with the other professors in the University. The island, hence, is conducive for intellectual exchange and discovery.
In addition, the expanse of the university perimeters provides an ideal setting for the LLIcon2024. Workshops, discussions, and collaborative sessions can freely unfold against a backdrop of lush greenery, panoramic view, and soothing sea breeze that could nurture creativity and learning.
Beyond the walls of the academia, LLICon2024 delegation will discover that Catanduanes is also a treasure trove of literary inspiration. The island's diverse landscapes, from pristine beaches, dense waterfalls, and breathtaking vistas overlooking the Pacific Ocean, have served as the perfect muse for renowned writers and poets like Ramon Felipe Sarmiento, Allan Popa, Emmanuel Barrameda, and Nap Arcilla.
Delegates will also have the opportunity to not only immerse in academic pursuits but also in the local culture and history, expertly guided by the dynamic Tourism Officer @Carmel Bonifacio Garcia. Popular tourist attractions, such as the Binurong Point Baras and Puraran Beach, will be our guests’ memorable takeaway.
BALLT's ocular visit to Catanduanes Island surpassed being a mere exploration of educational possibilities; it was an unforgettable opportunity to see firsthand the breathtaking beauty of nature, untouched by the hustle and bustle of urbanization. The two-day visit momentarily halted time, allowing us to meet many incredibly kind people, like our tour guide and driver Dexter Alcantara Dex Alcantara Dex, our thoughtful Dorm Mistress Josephine Bagadiong Refugio, the kind VPs Dr. Gemma Acedo and Dr. Rosana Abundo, all under the thorough leadership of Dr. Patrick Azanza, Public Servant. Each person left a story during our visit in Catanduanes. With confidence, we present to you the perfect venue for LLICon2024.
