Join us on Sunday, October 19 for a special dinner presentation of "Successful Season by Season Tips for Catching Predatory Fish on the Fly Year Round" with Landon Mayer! Event held at the Hospitality House, in North Little Rock's Burns Park, 402 W Military Road. Members and guests welcome. Dinner will be served at 5:30 and the presentation will begin at 6. With more than 20 years guiding full time on the South Platte Landon is more than just one of the best guides in Colorado—he is a first class instructor, author, and fly creator who teaches and demonstrates his techniques and on-river knowledge to fellow anglers. He has developed innovative strategies for sighting, hooking, and landing selective trout. What truly sets him apart is his passion for teaching. He hopes to empower anglers, helping them succeed independently in future trips. He believes in being positive, patient, and committed to giving back.
Landon is particularly known for chasing and consistently landing large trout. He treats them almost as a different species—studying their behavior and tailoring techniques accordingly, including his specialized casting method.
He's also the designer behind Mayer's Mini Leech--a brutally effective fly as well as several other highly effective patterns that are simple to tie and highly effective including his Mini Leech Jig, Tails Up Trico, Titan Tube Midge, and more. (There will be a separate tying clinic preceding the dinner).
Landon writes for top fly-fishing publications—Fly Fisherman, High Country Angler, Field & Stream, American Angler, Fly Fusion, and others. He has also authored several influential books including 101 Trout Tips: A Guide’s Secrets, Tactics & Techniques, Sight Fishing for Trout, Colorado’s Best Fly Fishing, The Hunt for Giant Trout, and Guide Flies. He also created instructional videos like Mastering the Short Game and Landing the Trout of Your Life.

In a nod to AFF's history, we are having a Fish Fry (Did you know AFF's 'Fish Fry' initially started as a spaghetti supper?). Unlike our original fish fry events where all of the cooking was done by member volunteers, this one will be professionally prepared onsite by Adam's Catfish & Catering which will provide a buffet style meal with catfish filets, chicken tenders, fried shrimp, fries, hushpuppies, baked beans, slaw, green tomatoes, pickles, onion, tea and lemonade. Admission also includes beer and wine.
