Karen Petkovic has exhaustively supported other creatives in her role as Artistic Director at Bayarts and has often had to put her own studio practice in a weird state of perpetual suspension. She is in a time of flow, defining her focus as an accomplished painter of landscapes that evoke expressive color and metaphor. “Land” is also a verb and has meant something more personally to the artist where she likened it to coming down from the air and connecting more firmly with the ground. Karen’s intensive commitment to the Plein Air movement here in Cleveland has given her much experience in being ‘up in the air’ which can be fun-but increasingly her focus has provided her much comfort in both space and time to truly land in the wonders of this LAND.
