About this Event
"Some people want to build walls…I much rather building bridges. Creating dialogues through art across boundaries, language barriers and cultural differences." - Lance Johnson
The public is invited inside The historic Mansion 731 to enjoy Johnson's solo exhibit with the creative community during the OTE Art Walk festival on Sunday, July 9th from 12-5pm.
About The Artist
Lance Johnson is a Columbus, Ohio artist, teacher, muralist and Hip Hop ambassador.
"When I was 14 years old, my mother showed me a documentary called “I’ll Make Me A World.” It was a brilliant examination of African American arts in America and the incredible collection of artists who I knew nothing about. It was there that I discovered the work of Romare Bearden.
I was fascinated by the improvisation of his work and I knew I wanted to create art with that sort of freedom. As a Hip Hop junkie, the grittiness and energy of his work made so much sense to me..As Jazz informs Bearden’s work, Hip Hop informs mine…a natural continuation of the rich legacy. A rich legacy of Dopeness..."
