In-Depth Buddhist teachings on the 14 Lamrim meditations, with Buddhist monk Gen Kelsang Rabka. Thursday evenings, 7:30 - 9pm
About this Event

What is Lamrim? Lamrim means, "the stages of the path to enlightenment".

Over 1000 years ago the great Indian Buddhist Master, Venerable Atisha consolidated the 84,000 teachings of Buddha into the "Lamrim", which is a special presentation of all Buddha's instructions that are easy to understand and practise, and can readily be applied to solving the problems of daily life. The Lamrim takes us step-by-step through carefully crafted meditations so we can purposefully nourish the qualities in our mind that lead to our happiness, and reduce our painful thoughts and feelings.

There remains a completely pure and unbroken lineage of these Lamrim instructions, originating with Buddha Shakyamuni through to our present day Spiritual Guides. Lamrim is the heart practice of Kadampa Buddhism.

During this series we will progress through a special presentation of 14 Lamrim meditations as revealed in the book "How to Understand the Mind" by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche. Each week we will examine one of the 14 meditations, drawing out how we can personally use these meditations and create our own meditation practice. There will be a special emphasis on the art of meditation and how to really make our meditations effective.

Each class is self-contained, so you are welcome to join us any week, regardless of whether you've attended previous classes in this course.

Course Plan:

  • Aug-Sep: The 5 Initial Scope Meditations (learning how to protect ourselves from lower rebirth)
  • Oct: The 4 Middling Scope Meditations (learning how to attain nirvana/liberation)
  • Nov-Dec: The 5 Great Scope Meditations (learning how to enter and progress along the Mahayana path to full enlightenment)
