About this Event
As we are now out of bird nesting season we will be starting on the habitat management tasks, trying our best to provide the best conditions for the flora and fauna that calls Lakeside Home.
Task Plan – Wednesday 5th November
Primary Task
Woodland management withing the grazing compartment
Objective
- Cut back and open up areas within a crowded woodland space.
- Create new habitats to support species growth and increase biodiversity.
- Construct a dead hedge using leftover brash to provide shelter for mammals and insects.
Purpose
- Support the ongoing upkeep of woodland areas within grazing compartments.
- Encourage the development of diverse habitats and promote the presence of new species.
Expected Outcome
- Maintain open grassland conditions.
- Enhance ecological health and biodiversity through habitat restoration and structural improvements.
10am meet by the ranger store at the south end of lakes near the public loos.
Please wear sturdy footwear and warm clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty and be prepared with waterproofs in case of rain. We can provide gloves but please bring your own if you have them.
We will provide hot drinks and biscuits, but you may want to bring a water bottle. Unfortunately, we cannot cater to all dietary needs at this time, so you may want to bring your own snack if this applies to you.
Tools will be provided and a safety briefing will be carried out at the beginning of each task.
If you suffer from allergies or require Medic*tion, please remember to take/bring your Medic*tion.
If weather or wind will make the session too dangerous to run, we will attempt to call you on the number provided.
