About this Event

As we are now out of bird nesting season we will be starting on the habitat management tasks, trying our best to provide the best conditions for the flora and fauna that calls Lakeside Home.

Objectives
  • Enhance biodiversity by creating a varied age structure within the habitat and increasing light levels, allowing meadow and ground flora to establish and persist.
  • Support conservation goals through the management of invasive or overly dominant species that suppress natural regeneration and reduce habitat diversity.
  • Improve landscape resilience by maintaining a mosaic of open grassland and scrub, increasing the site’s ability to adapt to environmental change and disturbance.
  • Encourage community and ecological benefits by maintaining an accessible, species-rich landscape that supports wildlife, pollinators, and positive engagement with the site.

Purpose

To manage the meadow and surrounding woodland edge in a way that strengthens ecological health, supports long-term sustainability, and ensures the area remains a thriving natural resource for wildlife, land users, and the wider community.

10am meet by the ranger store at the south end of lakes near the public loos.

Please wear sturdy footwear and warm clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty and be prepared with waterproofs in case of rain. We can provide gloves but please bring your own if you have them.

We will provide hot drinks and biscuits, but you may want to bring a water bottle. Unfortunately, we cannot cater to all dietary needs at this time, so you may want to bring your own snack if this applies to you.

Tools will be provided and a safety briefing will be carried out at the beginning of each task.

If you suffer from allergies or require Medic*tion, please remember to take/bring your Medic*tion.

If weather or wind will make the session too dangerous to run, we will attempt to call you on the number provided.

Please note: Conservation activities are subject to change. Over 18s only. Please leave dogs at home.

To cancel or for more information, please contact [email protected] or Dan (447770686998) Alex (447341077861)
