About this Event

Riding On Insulin is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded by pro backcountry snowboarder Sean Busby. With the help of our exceptional T1D coaches, we've taught thousands of kids & teens with Type 1 diabetes how to ski & snowboard, surf and mountain bike since 2010. We welcome participants of all ability and experience levels.

First timer? There's no better place to learn how to ride! We provide a safe, fun learning environment and a memorable introduction to skiing or snowboarding for those with Type 1 diabetes and their siblings/friends. All of our coaches either have T1D themselves, or love someone with T1D as well!

Experienced skier or snowboarder? Campers are grouped together based on age and experience level. More advanced groups spend the day honing their skills with one of our seasoned coaches while exploring the mountain.

When you register for one of our camps, you're signing up for more than a day on the mountain. You're joining a community of people who "get it" — a tight-knit community who knows what it's like to live with Type 1 diabetes every single day. We're pushing the limits of the disease in a safe environment, learning that anything is possible with T1D, and we want you to join us!

What's Included:
1. Virtual Orientation
We kick off the weekend with a *LIVE* 45-minute virtual orientation with our families and coaches. We play a few games, answer any questions and hear from our partners about the latest and greatest in insulin pump therapy and CGM technology. We also have a Certified Diabetes and Education Specialist on every call to answer any questions regarding blood sugar management, temp basal, Automated Insulin Delivery systems, etc!

2. Swag Bag
Upon checking in at camp, your camper will receive a drawstring bag with swag, including a 2025 winter camp shirt, keychain, stickers, & items from sponsors. We take pride in our original graphic designs and high quality, durable shirts and hoodies so you can wear them for years to come. If you pre-order a hoodie and/or beanie when you register, those items will be in your camper's bag at check-in.

3. Epic Camp Day
On camp day, we split into groups of 4-6 campers, which are led by our T1D coaches and volunteers and have names like "Team Shred" and "Team Slin"
A typical schedule for Alaska camp looks like this:
9:30 AM. — Check-in for families
10:00 AM. — Campers hit the mountain with their groups
10:30 AM — Casual Parent discussion at the ROI home base
12:00 PM — Lunch as a group
12:45 PM — Another group check, and kids head out for more riding/skiing
3:45 PM — Group photo & goodbyes! Campers head with parents to return rentals, if applicable.
