Each year before the official start of our season, Wingra Boats likes to take a moment to recognize the water, the land, and the incredible gift it is to each of us. We ask for a safe season and a summer of wonder and joy. This year, we are honored to be joined by Thomas Redbird and his family. The Redbird Family, who are members of the Water Spirit Clan of the Ho-Chunk Nation, will lead us in a tobacco ceremony and the lake blessing to honor and practice respect for the natural world of which we are a part. Ho-Chunk people still follow the oral tradition of passing along such information by word of mouth, and the Redbird family will be around to answer questions before and after the event.
We reside on the ancestral land of the Ho-Chunk nation and remind all of our visitors of the responsibility we have to continue honoring and respecting their land and waters.
Please join us as we bless our lake, and kick off the paddle season with the Redbird family.
The celebration starts at 8am with the blessing at 8:30 am, followed by the start of our season at 9 am! There will be free bagels and coffee.
