DESCRIPTION:
Day 1
Arrival
Meet at Wellington Boat ramp (1.5 km upstream from the Wellington Ferry) Plenty of public parking for all.
Break 8km
We paddle south down the river towards Lake Alexandrina. The destination, Point Pomond is located within Lake Alexandrina. Once we emerge at the southern end of the river, we head south – south-west towards the point of land within the lake, effectively following the western shore-line of the lake toward Point Pomond. A potential morning break spot is a small beach 5km before the point.
Lunch 6km - Total 14km
The best place to take a break is on one of the white sandy beaches visible on the approach to Pomand Island. This will be our Lunch spot.
Dinner 15km - Total 29km
Crossing from Pomand Island to the narrows. This will be the first of the three parts to the weekends lake crossing. We will head directly for the narrows making most of the open water. Breaks will be taken on the water with no opportunity to stretch the legs without getting wet.
A public campsite with toilets and shelter will host us for the night.
Day 2
Breakfast
On the water by 9am. Heading west along the cost around Raukkan. We will enjoy cliffs and sights of a town featuring the church present on the 50 dollar note.
Break 8km
The break before crossing number 2 over to Point Sturt.
Lunch 6km - Total 14km
Point Sturt for lunch and a walk to look at what we have achieved and what we still to come.
Finish - Milang 12km - Total 26km
We will head south for our final crossing to Milang.
Car shuffle back to Wellington
Please bring appropriate camping gear for 1 night. No fires allowed. Mosquitos are a real danger.
Enough water and food for the two days
