LadySlipper is a three-piece folk a capella group, named after the native orchid of the Midwest. With original compositions and a debut album on the way, LadySlipper celebrates the power of women’s voices — raw, resonant, and rooted. Whether performing in echoing barns or intimate rooms, their music carries a sense of belonging that feels timeless, tender, and true.
Novel Folly is an independent, genre-fluid quintet based in Madison, WI. Drawing from eclectic backgrounds in jazz, funk, afro-cuban, and classical/contemporary music, Novel Folly explores the liminal space between genres and packages it with catchy pop vocals and danceable anthems. Luna Pluer (vox), Mark Goodden, (keys - BA UW Madison), Jordan Kowalski (drums - MM University of Miami), Grant Blaschka (bass - MM Hartt School), and Peter Mathistad (winds - BA Luther College) makeup the quintet. For their debut EP, (a)Live at the Cheesecooler, Novel Folly brought in guitar and extra horns to form a whopping nine-piece band, experimenting with recording all together in the same room. It’s a collection of tunes originally written for previous group, CoMingle, brought to full life by Novel Folly with the assistance of Joshua Alley at Second Street Soundworks, and producer Will Bailey. Interested in connecting deeply with their audience, Novel Folly brings a certain approachability for listeners to enjoy styles they might haven’t heard before by combining them with more widely familiar traditions.
Containing three members, Arp of the Covenant uses a variety of electronic and acoustic gizmos to create sounds with. Almost cult-like in their approach to making music, Arp of the Covenant insists that once they sit down at their instruments, they have no control over what they will play. They, in fact, become instruments for a mystical synthesizer that they found in a crudely fashioned tomb in the magical forests of northern Wisconsin.... The ARP. When asked to identify themselves in the presence of the ARP they respond only with a slack jawed blank stare. Once the ARP is engaged it takes mere seconds for it to take control of their motor functions and command them what to do.
