Contact Improvisation Fundamentals Workshop: This 2.5-hour workshop provides an immersive dive into the fundamental skills, concepts, and techniques of Contact Improvisation. It's great for those new to CI or anyone who wants to gently revisit the foundations of the form. Sunday, January 11th, 3:30-6:00pm.
Open Movement Jams with the Living Arts Collective Team + Featured Guest Instructors: We will experiment with and explore the wide field of movement forms such as ensemble improvisation, contact improvisation and emergent interdisciplinary play. Every week, a featured teacher from our guest rotation will offer a brief guided score that moves into an open jam with occasional musical accompaniment. Mondays from 7-9pm, February 2nd - April 20th.
Open-Level Spirit and Technique of Contact Improvisation with em liptow and Emma Little: We will start from the ground up building awareness, listening, trust, and safety. By the end of the series you’ll be playing freely in solo, duet, and group improvisations, and finding your flow with weight sharing, momentum, and lifts. It is a great opportunity to get your Contact Improvisation practice started for the first time or to deepen your engagement with the form. Tuesdays from 7-9pm, February 3rd – April 21st.
From Under the Floor: Solo and Partnered Studies in Contact Improvisation with Coda Badamo-Connors: We will dive deeper into movement principles influenced by Aikido and Axis Syllabus, among other martial and somatic modalities. Students will be offered novel experiences of anatomy, easeful pathways to generate momentum, and applications of this work towards injury prevention. Wednesdays from 7-9pm, February 4th – March 11th.
Improvisational Practices and Technique with Anna Maynard: Join for a series of improvisational techniques and movement experience that can be translated and applied to a range of improvisational styles, including music. We will research orientation, meaning making, the composition of an image, and the thinking, feeling body of the individual and the collective. Wednesdays from 7-9pm, March 18th – April 22nd.
