Following the path of some of the Greats, such as Tina Turner, Jim Morrison, Eartha Kitt, Abbey Lincoln, Dexter Gordon, Phil Woods, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Stan Getz, Nina Simone, and more, plus some original material thrown in for good measure.
Johanna Landis is an expressive and passionate vocalist who covers a wide range of styles. She received training at the Berklee College of Music and Boston Conservatory. She also studied in the Master Class Program as part of the Bolshoi Opera Young Artist Program.
Along the way, she has toured with Chaka Khan, the Russ Morgan Orchestra, and several choral groups. She has sung with River Phoenix, Joaquin Phoenix, Maureen McGovern, Phil Wilson, and many others.
Alan Whitney has been a musician, educator and mentor for over four decades. Growing up in Tewksbury, Massachusetts, Alan started his teaching career at the age of fourteen. He continues to work on multiple projects with numerous trio/quartet configurations. Alan is a New England jazz guitar staple, educator and local favorite known for blending superb technique with thoughtful interpretation.
Multi-instrumentalist, Charlie Jennison, plays lead alto sax, flute, and soprano sax. Currently working with vocalist/pianist Johanna Landis, Charlie has also played with the Seacoast Big Band, Tommy Gallant, and is a member of the Capitol Jazz Orchestra.
Charlie has also shared the stage or been in the recording studio with such jazz notables as Clark Terry, Dizzy Gillespie, Buddy DeFranco, Alan Dawson, and Marshal Royal.
Charlie brings his love for music to all things jazz-related.
Joshua Schulz is a bassist and educator. He studied with seacoast legend Les Harris Sr. and continues to study both classical and jazz music. Currently teaching at Governor’s Academy in Byfield and through several private schools, Joshua has made it his mission to give the gift of music to his students.
Miki Matsuki was born in Matsuyama, Japan. She moved to the United States in 1996 to study jazz at Berklee College of Music. During her school years, her band was selected “Best of Berklee” in 2000. Since then, Miki has performed and recorded in various musical settings, including soundtrack work, performances at radio and television broadcasting stations, a tour of Korea, and more. She has performed with great musicians, including Wynton Marsalis, Joanne Brackeen, George Garzone, John Tchicai, Darren Bennett, Frank Lacy, Cecil Brooks, Dave Bryant, Stan Strickland, and many others. She received her MM and GPD in Modern American Music Performance from the Longy School of Music.
The band will also be joined by special guest vocalist Sharon Jones!
