ABOUT THE PRESENTATION: Ben Mankiewicz, the longtime host of Turner Classic Movies (TCM), as well as host of popular podcasts The Plot Thickens and Talking Pictures, joins LA Times Film Critic Amy Nicholson for a morning of conversation about classic cinema, Ben's former career in journalism, and his own family history. Passionate about movies and dedicated to ensuring that classic films remain a vibrant part of American culture, Ben Mankiewicz has an important and engaging story to tell.
ABOUT THE SPEAKERS:
BEN MANKIEWICZ: Ben Mankiewicz is the primetime host of Turner Classic Movies. When he made his TCM debut more than 20 years ago in September 2003, he became only the second host hired in the network's history. During his career at TCM, he has introduced thousands of movies on the air. Additionally, he’s become one of the best interviewers in the business, leading thoughtful and entertaining long-form conversations with more than two hundred of the industry’s top talents, including Steven Spielberg, Mel Brooks, Bruce Springsteen, Sophia Loren, Martin Scorsese, Harrison Ford, Warren Beatty, Spike Lee, Robert Redford, Pam Grier, Quentin Tarantino, Faye Dunaway, Lou Gossett, Jr., and Michael Douglas. Oh, and Tom Hanks.
AMY NICHOLSON: Amy Nicholson is the Film Critic of the Los Angeles Times. She is a current on-air voice at LAist and KCRW, and a member of the Los Angeles Film Critics Assn. and the National Society of Film Critics. Her book Tom Cruise: Anatomy of an Actor was printed by Cahiers du Cinema/Phaidon Press, and her second, Extra Girls, will be published by Simon & Schuster. Nicholson also co-hosts the movie podcast Unspooled with previous LABC presenter Paul Scheer.
