While there is no single way to capture the essence of the food scene in Los Angeles, the L.A. Times Restaurant of the Year Award celebrates what this city is becoming increasingly known for with inventive, distinctive and captivating food.
The L.A. Times Food Bowl, Presented by City National Bank is proud to celebrate the 2021 Restaurant of the Year award winner: PHENAKITE.
From Chef Minh Phan of porridge + puffs, PHENAKITE is a modern Angeleno restaurant redefining fine dining in the award-winning Second Home campus in Hollywood. Phenakite’s tasting menu takes guests on a journey of the land, sea, and air, juxtaposing introspection, expression and transformation.
The 5th annual L.A. Times Restaurant of the Year was chosen by our Food Critic Bill Addison and will be celebrated with a series of events at the restaurant including an elaborate Restaurant of the Year 14 Course Prix Fixe Dinner Experience and a celebratory Bento Box Brunch and Award Presentation event.
SUNDAY, JULY 11 - PHENAKITE BENTO BOX BRUNCH AND AWARD PRESENTATION MENU:
Chef Minh Phan will be creating this special seasonal menu just for the occasion. It will feature a selection of 12 bites encompassing all that PHENAKITE has to offer, packaged in a hand crafted custom made wooden picnic bento box. Enjoy house made pickles, an appetizer spread, a selection of savory main courses, and sweets. Cocktails and still and sparkling water are included. All meals will come with an exclusive handmade mother of pearl spoon to take home. The brunch event will include the presentation of the Restaurant of the Year award.

FRIDAY, JULY 9 & SATURDAY, JULY 10 - PHENAKITE RESTAURANT OF THE YEAR 14 COURSE VIP PRIX FIXE DINNER EXPERIENCE
Experience PHENAKITE is its true form, taken up a notch. Using space, scent, and sound as part of dinner, the 14 course prix fixe dinner experience at PHENAKITE will be an intimate setting with an elaborate celebratory tasting menu that will take a journey of the land, sea, and air, juxtaposing introspection, expression and transformation. Exclusive cocktails will be served and special bottles of wine will be opened for the first time. Non-alcoholic pairing options will be available as well. Still and sparkling water provided by Acqua Panna® and S.Pellegrino®. Price includes 14+ courses, all beverages, a few fun surprises, and gifts to take home.
