Spend the afternoon surrounded by poetry & art! We start with a poetry workshop with sample poems, prompts, and verse starters. Share your poem (or part of it) to the group! During intermission, you'll have a chance to check out the book tables and art, speak to poets and artists, and participate in a short art activity. We will continue our program with a Creative Showcase: poets will share poetry, artists will speak briefly about their art, and we end with Open Mic for workshop participants and the general community to share their poetry, other writing, or an art piece. This is an all-ages, family friendly event! Sponsored by the Friends of the Livermore Public Library.¡Pasen la tarde rodeados de poesía y arte! Empezaremos con un taller de poesía con poemas de ejemplo, entradas, y phrases para comenzar sus versos. Comparta su poema con el grupo. Tendra la oportunidad de mirar los libros y arte, hablar con los poetas y artistas, y también participar en una actividad de arte. Continuaremos el programa con un espectáculo: los poetas compartirán su poesía, los artistas hablarán brevemente de su arte, y terminaremos con un segmento de Micrófono Abierto para los participantes y el público: compartan su poesía, escritura, un poema preferido, o una obra de arte.¡Es un evento para todas las edades, bueno para familias! La Raíz Magazine expands culturally-relevant arts engagement opportunities to create, present, publish, and experience poetry and visual art that celebrate shared culture and inspire conversations on important issues. La Raíz offers free, bilingual generative workshops, creative showcases, and an annual, multilingual literary journal to create space for the publication and presentation of creative work by people who identify as women, girls, and members of the global majority; with an emphasis on work by people whose heritage is rooted in lands that are now Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean, and South America, who identify as: Chicana/o, Indigenous, Raza, from their country of origin. La Raíz Magazine sets an example of inclusive, interactive community-building opportunities to promote self-confidence, empathy, and cross-cultural understanding.
