La Descarga, the dynamic Afro-Latin-Australian band known for their explosive performances and vibrant fusion of traditional Colombian and contemporary Australian sounds, is thrilled to announce the launch of their debut album, Fiesta de Corazón, at a special family-friendly event on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at the Brunswick Ballroom. The event will run from 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm with support from Brazilian Carnival outfit Agobloco and Brisbane’s tropical DJ pro Paprika.La Descarga’s long-awaited album, over seven years in the making, is more than just music—it’s a celebration of culture, community, and the joy of coming together. Supported by Regional Arts Victoria and more than 175 crowdfunding supporters, Fiesta de Corazón captures the vibrant spirit of Latin American and Caribbean cultures, inviting listeners to experience a vibrant party in their hearts.

About the album
"Fiesta de Corazón" is more than just an album; it’s a vibrant party for your heart, named to evoke the celebratory and heartfelt spirit that’s so inherent in Latin American and Caribbean cultures. This collection of 10 original tracks encapsulates over a decade of musical evolution. Drawing from the Afro-Colombian traditions of Colombia’s Caribbean and Pacific coasts, the album infuses these rich cultural roots with contemporary Australian urban sounds like funk, dub, and electronica.
The album features over ** artists including Jorge Leiva (La Descarga, Miss Colombia), Kathleen Gonzalez (Tunjos y Cantaros Ethnologic Dance Company), Lauren Mullarvey (The Cactus Channel, Chet Faker), and Mat Robb (Melbourne International Jazz Festival, Darwin Music Festival) and features collaborations from icon of Australian Sudanese music, Ajak Kwai, Australian Didgeridoo Maestro Sean Candy, Melbourne-based South Sudanese hip-hop artist Malesh P, and members of Colombian pacifica crew Bejuco including William Martinez and Camilo Martinez.
The album was mixed by acclaimed Colombian producer Diego Gomez (Llorona Records, Discos Pacifico), known for his extensive work with Afro-Colombian artists from the Caribbean and the Pacific, and collaborations with international artists Adrian Sherwood, Mad Professor, and Channel One Sound System. The album’s rich cultural tapestry is further enhanced by its stunning cover art, crafted by Colombian artist Dora Moreno Zúñiga, reflecting the festive colours and traditions of Cartagena.

At the album launch, attendees will experience La Descarga’s dynamic 12-piece band, featuring traditional singers (cantadores and cantadoras), Colombian percussion instruments, gaita flutes, and a fusion of dub-bass, psychedelic guitar, and a powerful brass section. Performers, adorned in vibrant tropical carnival attire, will integrate dance elements and captivating visual projections, creating an immersive celebration of culture and music.
Melbourne’s beloved Brazilian crew, Agobloco, will bring their infectious energy of Brazil’s famous carnival with traditional marches. DJ Paprika, a key figure in the Latin tropical fiesta scene, will keep the fiesta atmosphere alive with an irresistible mix of Colombian roots sounds, from cumbia to salsa dura.
This event promises to be a true family fiesta, inviting guests of all ages to experience a whirlwind of music, dance, and dress-ups, all set against an electrifying fiesta atmosphere. A chillax room will be available for younger guests and those needing a break from the festivity. Stocked with toys, blocks, colouring activities, and games, it’s the perfect place to wind down and recharge.
