La bulería is one of the most rhythmical and intriguing of all Flamenco “palos” or styles, and currently one of the most popular. There are many ways to interpret them, according to the artists and the heritage of the places those artists themselves come from: places like Jerez, Lebrija, Utrera, Cádiz or Sevilla come to mind. On top of that there are many melodic forms and handclapping variations from those very places that also work in different ways.
In this workshop we will focus on some melodies from Jerez, understanding the handclapping, as well as how they would work within the context of a “tablao” and a “juerga” or party.
The class will be taught in English and handouts of the material will be provided to the attendees. You are advised and more than welcome to record the audio of the class.
Open to intermediate/advanced flamenco dance students, guitarists, and singers. Learn more about rhythm and verses “for bulerias” from this master singer and teacher.
