John Grandage will discuss Governor LeRoy Collins - Florida’s governor from 1955 to 1961 - known for his leadership during the civil rights era and efforts to modernize the state. Collins later served in the U.S. Department of Commerce and played a key role in national civil rights efforts.

John Grandage is Assistant Director of Historical Resources at the Florida Department of State. He has worked for the Florida Department of State since 2011. During that time, he has served as Historian for the Florida Memory Program, as Executive Director of The Grove Museum, and currently is Assistant Director for the Division of Historical Resources. At The Grove, John worked to complete the award-winning restoration of the Call-Collins House, developed the interpretative plan for the museum, and served as the site's first Executive Director from 2014 to 2021. In his current role, he manages major construction and museum development projects as well as public relations for the Division of Historical Resources.
