After months of hard work, the City of Kyle Parks and Recreation Department and the Community Gardens Committee invite the community to join them for the Grand Opening of the Community Garden at Post Oak just in time for the Fall planting season.
Join us Sunday, September 29 at 2 p.m. at Post Oak Park, 201 Goddard and check out the finished project, talk with city staff and learn more about the project.
About the Community Garden at Post Oak
The Community Garden at Post Oak consists of 35 garden plots, including ADA plots, compost bins, restrooms, covered tables, parking and other amenities. The community garden aims to serve over 300 people annually and improve the consumption of fruits and vegetables.
Gardeners will be able to water their beds with a handheld spray nozzle with trigger locks making them inoperable if left unattended. City staff will check the garden every morning, Monday through Saturday, to ensure regulations are being followed. Gardeners can also utilize the Olla Water System that provides moisture at the roots, preventing excess water waste to evaporation and is preset in all garden beds.
Water for the Community Garden at Post Oak will come from an on-site City of Kyle water line. Members of the Community Garden pay an annual charge per plot to cover the cost of water. The Community Garden is metered to track usage. Water usage will be subject to any City of Kyle water restrictions. Current watering restrictions can be seen at CityofKyle.com/Drought.
