Birthday Variations is one of Gerald Arpino’s most delightful and technically dazzling ballets. Set to a selection of buoyant operatic melodies by Giuseppe Verdi, this neoclassical jewel brims with elegance, charm, and effervescent musicality. “Birthday Variations” was commissioned by Becky D’Angelo as a birthday present to her husband Dino, who owned Chicago’s Civic Opera House, and loved Verdi’s music.
A jewel of a ballet it is the perfect showcase for five ballerinas and a solo male consisting of six variations and a dreamy romantic pas de deux.
