About this Event
Ujima means "collective work and responsibility" in Swahili, and is the third principle of Kwanzaa. Our 2024 celebration centers on community interdependence through dance, hands-on art, and discussion. Special partnership organizations will be present to inform guests about the traditions of the Kwanzaa holiday. All are welcome to celebrate with us.
The celebration will feature engaging programming from the following creative community partners:
- A signature Kwanzaa theater performance, titled “AKWABAA,” from the Charlotte-based theater company
- Ancestral honoring workshop with the media group
- Diaspora dance workshops from the Dance With the Gantt series, curated by LaTanya Johnson
- Education on the foundation and traditions of Kwanzaa with
